Course Overview
The two days of theory will cover the following:

  • Psychrometrics
  • Economizers and mixing air
  • Installations

The lab session (1 day) includes hands-on training for residential air conditioning systems. The participants will work on a variety of different air conditioning systems and will learn how to safely use gauge sets, recovery machines, and vacuum pumps.  The main topics include: 

  • Measurements of system parameters including superheat and sub-cooling
  • Refrigerant charging and recovery
  • Nitrogen purging and evacuation

Course Overview
Learn to effectively combat the hazards of contaminated or polluted fluids impacting the quality of potable water..The course is designed for those already involved with the planning, design, installation, maintenance and inspection of plumbing and piping systems or water-supplied equipment that connects to potable water systems, either inside or outside of buildings.  It is 32 hours over 4 days of theory and practical instruction and qualifies for the Canada Saskatchewan Job Grant.  Recertification students only attend 2 days. June 20 & 21, 2023.

Successful completion of both the written and practical exam (minimum of 75%) is required to receive your AWWA Cross Connection Control Specialist Tester Certificate. AWWA will send the certificate directly to the attendee.

OZONE LAYER PROTECTION AWARENESS TRAINING

Course Overview
This environmental awareness training program, based on Environment Canada's "Code of Practice for Elimination of Fluorocarbon Emissions in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems", deals with environmentally-correct equipment design, proper handling of refrigerants, and will prepare participants for complying with Federal and Provincial Regulations covering refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

Topics covered are:science of ozone depletion, leak detection methods, system charging procedures, special maintenance provisions, and refrigerant recovery, reuse, recycle, and reclamation equipment.

Participants who get 75% or higher on the exam will receive certification and get an Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) card.

This course is for:

Those who require the ODP/ODS Certification for the purchasing and/or handling of refrigerants throughout Canada, to fulfill provincial and federal regulations.

This certification is NOT a trade license or trade qualification.

Jules Chenard will provide a comprehensive review of the National Plumbing Code including sizing and drainage and venting, interpretations, rural water supply and material residential and commercial settings.

Jesse Abdai (in Regina) and Kurt Reiber (in Saskatoon) will focus on key technical areas of the B.149.1 and Saskatchewan Codes of Practice including gas appliances, vent sizing and materials, piping, clearances, access and walkways.

This course covers:
Day 1  Advantages of Hydronic Systems

  • boilers, venting and combustion air
  • pumps, air control, expansion tanks
  • valves, emitters (terminal units), controls, balancing
  • primary - secondary piping connections 
  • heat loss calculations

A working hydronics board and computer software will be used to visually demonstrate many of the principles presented.
Attendees will leave with a good understanding of how all the pieces in hydronics systems function and interact, be able to lay out these components in the correct order for proper operation and be able to look at existing systems that have issues and correctly diagnose problems.

Day 2  Hydronic System Design

  • defining requirements, piping layout
  • selecting equipment, pipe/pump sizing
  • operating temperatures, control strategies
  • primary - secondary piping, pumping and control
  • analyze temperature relationships
  • boiler controls - including code requirements for safety devices

The Technical Training Center was developed in partnership with SaskEnergy and the Mechanical Contractors Association of Saskatchewan. This provincial natural gas trades training centre was designed to provide a facility for technical training to both SaskEnergy and the Mechanical Contractors Industry.
